Add at least one card to print.

Print on both sides and flip on the long edge. Backs are mirrored so each answer lands behind its term.

How to print your own flashcards

  1. Get the cards in. Paste two columns from a spreadsheet, a Quizlet export or a typed list, or pick a deck you made on the flashcard maker. Got notes instead? The AI flashcard generator drafts the cards for you.
  2. Pick a layout. Double-sided if your printer can print on both sides; fold-over if it can’t.
  3. Print at 100% scale. In the print dialog turn off “fit to page” so the cards stay square with the cut lines. For double-sided, choose “flip on long edge”.
  4. Cut along the dashed lines. A paper trimmer is quicker and straighter than scissors for a full sheet.

Which layout and size to choose

Cards per pageCard size (approx.)Good for
4Half a page wide, a quarter tallYoung learners, sight words, big pictures-free prompts
6–8About index-card sizeMost subjects; 8 is the default
10–12Small, pocket-sizedVocabulary and short terms

Sizes depend on your paper (US Letter or A4) and printer margins. The layout fits a 250 mm tall area so it works on both.

Paper tips

  • Plain 80 gsm (20 lb) paper works, but answers can show through. Card stock or 160 gsm paper doesn’t.
  • Double-sided on a printer without duplex: print the fronts, put the stack back in the tray, then print the backs page. Do a one-page test first to see which way your printer feeds.
  • Use the fold-over layout and a glue stick for sturdy two-layer cards from ordinary paper.

Printable flashcards vs studying on screen

Paper cards are great for a desk session, sorting into piles and studying away from a phone. On screen, study mode keeps your Leitner boxes for you and the flashcard games add a clock. You can do both with the same deck. For a full mock exam rather than cards, use the practice test generator.

Questions people ask

How do I make printable flashcards for free?

Paste your terms and answers above (one card per line), pick double-sided or fold-over, and press Print. It is free, with no account and no watermark.

How do I make double-sided flashcards line up?

Choose the double-sided layout, print at 100% scale (not “fit to page”) and pick “flip on long edge”. The back page is mirrored left to right, so each answer prints behind its term.

Can I save the flashcards as a PDF?

Yes. In the print dialog, choose “Save as PDF” (Chrome, Edge) or “PDF” (Safari, Mac) as the printer.

How do I make printable flashcards in Word or Google Docs?

You can build a two-column table and size each cell to your card, but you have to mirror the backs yourself for double-sided printing. Pasting the list here does the layout and mirroring automatically.

Is there a free flashcard template?

This page is a fillable template: the 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 per page layouts fill themselves from your list, so you never type into boxes one by one.

What size are standard flashcards?

Classic index cards are 3 × 5 inches. The 6 or 8 per page layouts come out close to that on Letter or A4 paper.
